Kenya Parliamentary Caucus seeks UN Support to promote Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs)
The UN in Kenya hosted a group of Kenya Parliamentary Caucus on Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs) to discuss possible UN support to develop capacity of Parliamentarians on the Parliamentary oversight of development funds and monitoring of progress towards the SDGs in Kenya.
This is in line with the UN’s role to assist Parliament in making the SDGs central to the work of Parliament and in engaging effectively with SDGs in all areas of Parliamentary work.
The UN support will provide concrete opportunities for Parliamentarians to promote development effectiveness and support effective SDGs implementation and monitoring. It will be based on approaches based on practical examples of how other parliamentarians in Africa and other regions have engaged on such work already. “I’m glad we’re drawn from all of Kenya. Let’s break down the SDGs, understand the real issues to achieve tangible results”. Said Hon. Esther Passaris, Nairobi County Women Representative.
They all committed to realize the SDGs through collaboration and consensus in the 12th Parliament.
The event which was organized and coordinated by UN Kenya in collaboration with the UN Information Centre was attended by 10 members of Parliament of Kenya.
UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Siddharth Chatterjee presided and hosted the event.
