Mission Statement: The mission of the World Bank is to fight poverty with passion and professionalism. In Kenya, the Bank has provided over $43.5 billion towards development projects and sector Programmes that facilitate economic growth and also alleviate poverty by delivering direct and indirect benefits to the poor.

Agency Activities: The Bank is presently supporting 12 projects in Kenya in the health, Jua Kali, infrastructure, energy, environment and other economic sectors. These include poverty-oriented intervention through the Early Childhood Development Project, the Small and Micro enterprise Development Project and the Arid Lands Resource Management Project. The Bank is also financing rehabilitation of sections of the Nairobi- Mombasa road damaged by the El Nino in 1997/98.
Another infrastructure project, the Kenya Urban Transport Infrastructure Project, is geared towards reconstruction and improvement of roads and drainage systems in 26 urban centres including Nairobi, Mombassa, Nakuru, Kisumu and other major towns.
The other projects include the Energy Sector Reform Project and Power Development Reform, the Lake Victoria Environmental Management Project, the Sexually Transmitted Infections Project, which also deals with the increasing problem of HIV/AIDS, and the Procurement Reforms Enhancement Capacity Project, whose aim is to facilitate improvement of public sector procurement systems.< projects.
The Bank strategy for Kenya is focused on economic governance and its new lending is exclusively targeted to poverty eradication.
