| Mission Statement:
| The attainment for all peoples of the highest possible level of health, which will enable them to lead economically and socially productive lives.

| Agency Activities:
| In terms of common global functions WHO, which has a membership of 191 states, supports consensus building and advocacy, cross learning and transfer of knowledge and production and sharing of international public goods in health development.
The country specific functions support the development of national health policies, critical inventory of national health resources, analysis of needs for external input. They also mobilize additional resources, provide technical support to the national authorities to address priority areas, namely HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, reproductive health, immunizable diseases, environmental health and massive effort advocacy against diseases of poverty as a strategy for poverty alleviation. These functions are undertaken within the framework of the national strategic health plans, taking cognizance of inputs of other partners in health development and support to national strategies for improving capacity towards self-reliance.
