| UNODC'S mission is to work with nations and people worldwide to tackle the global drug problem and its consequences by
Alerting the world to the threats posed by drug abuse to individuals, families, communities and institutions.
Building and supporting local, national and international partnerships to address drug issues
Promoting and enhancing efforts to reduce drug abuse, particularly among the young and vulnerable.
Strengthening international action against drug production, trafficking and drug related crime.
Ensuring adequate supplies of controlled drugs for medical and scientific purposes.

| Agency Activities:
| In addition to research, data collection, coordination and advisory services, UNODC implements project and Programmes in a number of areas. In the area of supply reduction, for example, UNODC funds training of police and customs officers and supports coordination of regional efforts to curb drug trafficking. It also works with government institutions to raise awareness and ensure appropriate infrastructure is created so that all aspects of the drug problems are addressed. In the area of demand reduction, UNODC works not only with governments but also with NGOs and other UN agencies, to promote activities such as prevention, education, awareness raising, treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts. It works especially among young people to raise awareness about the consequences of drug abuse.
