Mission Statement: Created by the General Assembly in 1946 to meet the emergency needs of children in post-war Europe, UNICEF’s mission is dedicated exclusively to children. The agency works for child protection, survival and development within the framework of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations to advocate for the protection of children's rights, especially in situations of war, disasters, extreme poverty and all forms of violence. UNICEF mobilizes resources to help countries, particularly developing countries, deliver services for children. UNICEF aims to promote equal rights of women and girls, including their full participation in the political, social and economic development of their communities.

Agency Activities: Within the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF Uganda Country Office, jointly with the Government of Uganda, advances the cause of children in health and nutrition, basic education, provision of clean water and sanitation. UNICEF is also actively involved in the HIV/AIDS awareness campaign.
