Children and women are among the most disadvantaged on the planet. UNICEF Somalia will strive through its Programme and advocacy activities to protect and promote their rights. Political neutrality, respect for the Somali culture, values and self reliance, close collaboration with other UN agencies and NGOs, honesty, transparency and accountability will direct UNICEF Somalia’s action in line with UNICEF guiding principles.
Agency Activities:
In the absence of functioning government institutions, UNICEF continues to play a crucial role in re-establishing and maintaining essential human services for Somali children and women.
Key services are:

* Basic education (for school-age children)
* Youth development and protection (for out-of-school youth) activities
* Water and environmental sanitation (WES)services provision and emergency response to outbreaks of disease, famine, floods and massive
* Movement of people in Somalia
In Somalia, UNICEF maintains four zonal offices, in Kismayo, Mogadishu, Bossaso and Hargeisa, and two sub-offices in Baidooa and Bardera, and a smaller presence in Jowhar, initially to oversee implementation of a water project, but now serving as an extension of Mogadishu.Expatriate staff meant to be stationed in Mogadishu operates out of the UNICEF Somalia Support Centre (USSC) in Nairobi, Kenya.
