Mission Statement: UNICEF’s mission is to advocate for the protection of children's rights in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Agency Activities: UNICEF carries out its work through 22 countries and Operation Lifeline Sudan. The Regional Office provides technical support to country Programmes, specifically in the areas of Programme design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, operations and personnel.
On the Programme side, the regional priority is to combat HIV/AIDS and malaria. Other initiatives include improving UNICEF support to community-level capacity building; applying human rights principles to UNICEF-supported Programmes; and integrating emergency preparedness in all.
