| Established in 1971 in Nagoya, Japan, UNCRD’s mission is to promote regional and local development in developing countries. UNCRD Africa Office, which is a regional office, aims at contributing to a better understanding of the development needs and problems of African countries by developing practical approaches to local and regional levels.

* Serving as a training and research Centre in local and regional development planning.
* Clarifying the nature and causes of the economic and social crisis affecting the African continent and impacts on regions and communities.
