UNIC Nairobi promotes Ocean Conference – Ocean Clean up in Malindi, KenyaTirus Wainaina
In support of the Ocean Conference and the World Environment Day (WED), on Saturday, 3rd June 2017, UNIC Nairobi together with the UN Environment, UNESCO, UNIC , Ocean-Sole , Local Ocean Trust and several other partners organized activities in Watamu, Kenya. During the event, locals in Watamu gathered to remove waste trash and other debris that has washed up onto the beach and sell collected trash for recycling. On Monday , 5th June 2017 the activities will culminate in a recycling facility – Regeneration Africa .
Cognizant of this year’s World Environment Day theme, ‘Connecting People to Nature’, the partners were able promote the adoption of conservation entrepreneurship by turning waste into cash -Trash to Treasure.
Also, to encourage public engagement and awareness in the Ocean Conference, World Environment Day and to promote the sustainable use and protection of our seas, the partners also organized games and educational activities.
