Nelson Mandela International Day- 18 July

Every year on 18 July — the day Nelson Mandela was born — the UN asks individuals around the world to mark Nelson Mandela International Day (18 July) by making a difference in their communities. Everyone has the ability and the responsibility to change the world for the better, and Mandela Day is an occasion for everyone to take action and inspire change.

To fulfil this call, UN Information Centre Nairobi staff led other UN agencies to donate 67 minutes of their time for public service that is 1 minute for every year Mr. Mandela estimated he had devoted in the service to humanity as a human rights lawyer, a prisoner of conscience, and as an international peacemaker at Roysambu primary school near United States International University (USIU). The staff undertook activities such as cleaning, cooking and general upkeep. This was a joint event hosted together with the High Commission of South Africa.
