16 Days of Activism against Gender-Base Violence: Anti-FGM Meeting, Kajiado

More than 5000 people gathered at Enkorika, Kajiado County on 25 November 2016 to mark the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against gender violence marked globally. The event led by Public Service Youth and Gender Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki, saw more than 350 girls who are against the female Genital Mutilation graduating after going an alternative rite of passage without FGM. 55 Ex-Cutters came out to declared that they were done with the cutting. At least two of them handed over the cutting tools which were burned in front of the participants.

It was historic as the young Morans publicly announced that they will no longer chase away the uncut girls and hence will marry them.
The event was attended by representatives from UN agencies, Civil Society groups, Non-government Organisations( NGO’s) and Government Ministries.
