Mission Statement: The mission of the organization, as envisaged in the Chicago Convention, is to promote the safe, efficient and orderly development of civil aviation in the World. ICAO sets international standards necessary for the safety, security and efficiency of air transport and serves as the coordinator for international cooperation in all area of civil aviation.

Agency Activities: The development and implementation of the ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and Regional Supplementary Procedures (SUPPs) as appropriate; air transport Programmes and policies in the economic, statistical, aviation security and facilitation fields including provision of advice and assistance to states as necessary.

Agency Coverage: ICAO has a membership of 185 contracting states. The Eastern and Southern African Office is accredited to 24 countries, namely Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Reunion (France), Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe
