UNIC Nairobi visits schools in central province

29 May, 2004 -- The National Information Officer of UNIC, Nairobi visited several schools in the Central Province for 5 days.

In the context of our annual school activities, and in collaboration with the Kenyan Ministry of Education Science and Technology, UNIC National Information Officer Irene Mwakesi visited schools in the Central Province between 24 and 29 May 2004.

The visits covered seven districts that form the province. Before proceeding to the districts a courtesy call was made to the Provincial Director of Education Mr. Wilfred Pere. He assigned one of his senior provincial education inspector Mr. Kennedy Sakwa to accompany the UNIC staff throughout the week. All the visits started with courtesy calls to the District Education Officers who coordinated the schools to be visited.

ifty three schools in total were addressed, given UN materials and shown videos entitled "The Silent Epidemic", and "UN for a better future". This was a successful mission accomplished in five days.
