United Nations Citizen Ambassadors-Video Competition:Your Chance to Tell World Leaders What You Think

Nairobi, 30 July 2010 (UN Information Centre) – The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is calling on people to tell the world why the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) matter to them ahead of the September Summit in New York. The UN Citizen Ambassadors competition is asking people to record a two-minute video telling world leaders what more they need to do to achieve the MDGs by 2015.

The videos must answer one of the following questions:

  1. Why are the MDGs important to you and your family?
  2. What is your community, city or country doing to achieve the MDGs?
  3. How can the international community work better together to achieve them?

Reply to one of the "call-for-entries" video ( playlist )on YouTube with your own video to enter.

Winners, one from each region of the world, will be invited to United Nations Headquarters in New York in October for UN Day 2010 and be named Citizen Ambassadors of the United Nations.
The contest is organized by the Department of Public Information in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), YouTube, TV5Monde, the UN Foundation and Flip Video. Videos must be submitted before 23 August 2010. Submitted videos must be recorded in English or French, or in any other language with English or French subtitles.
In another competition organized by UNDP "Picture This!" professional and amateur photographers are asked to take a photograph and show - in a positive way - what people around the world are doing to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The winning photos will be exhibited during the Millennium Development Goals Summit in New York in September.
