International Day of Peace 2010 - Call for Stories
Nairobi, 6 August 2010 (UN Information Centre) –To observe the International Day of Peace in 2010, the United Nations is gathering brief stories of individuals or groups pursuing interesting activities for peace.
The theme of this year’s International Day of Peace is Youth for Peace and Development. The theme is intended to draw a link between observations and efforts that individuals and groups make towards peace in their community, or globally, with the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals and the International Year of Youth.
UNIC would like to receive short stories—using text, photo and if possible video-- of what young people are doing for peace. These will go on a dedicated website and Facebook page, which will be led by the Secretary-General’s activities for peace.
Project Idea: Collect stories from young people, individuals or groups, on what they are doing in their communities and schools to promote peace. Stories should be written in a news feature or interview style, no more than 250 words, accompanied by high resolution photos or a brief video clip. Deadline: 31 August 2010
The stories should answer the following questions:
What are YOU doing for peace?
How is your project/school/community contributing to peace locally or globally?
Examples could include projects in the areas of sports, arts, culture, religion, schools or academia carried out by young people who are devoting their time and energy to a local or global peace effort.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
