Make your Voice heard! Send word "Peace" to 2090
(September 13, 2011, UNIC Nairobi ) - As the United Nations counts down to the International Day of Peace commemorated on 21 September, the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Nairobi will be launching an initiative to encourage Kenyans to share messages of peace through their mobile phones. Everyone agrees that there is a need for peace if a country is to develop. Through past experiences in Kenya there is a need for everyone to embrace diversity, tolerate each other and live harmoniously. We can only be able to achieve this goal by reminding ourselves that "peace begins with us". In this respect, peaceful co-existance is paramount and respect for each other can contribute to safer communities. Let us reach out to each other and make our voices heard about the need for peace.
Thus, UNIC will officially launch this initiative on Tuesday 13 September, 2011. Everyone is encouraged to participate by sending the word "peace" to 2090 (charge of 5/-) on their mobile phones and thereafter one will receive a peace message and also prompted with a request to introduce friends, by sending their mobile number and your name to 2090. The cycle continues.
You are all encouraged to participate and spread the messages of peace and introduce as many friends as you possibly can to enable us reach out to as many Kenyans as possible. The initiative will continue until 31 October, 2011. A ceremony to appreciate those who will have participated and those that have partnered in this venture will be held on 10 November, at a venue to be communicated later.
Make Your Voice Heard! Participate by sending the word "peace" to 2090.
