Educational Outreach
The United Nations is for you
UNIC Nairobi is involved in outreach activities to schools where it provides school children with opportunities to learn about the United Nations. This is done through planned visits to schools where a 45-minutes talk about United Nations is given to the students; a question-and-answer session between students and the UNIC Information Officer; and viewing of various United Nations related films like: the United Nations for a better future and Model UN for everyone as well as locally produced documentaries by UNICEF: The Silent Epidemic and Say Yes to the Children
UNIC has been visiting schools in Kenya since 1995 and so far has addressed approximately 35,000 students from some 1,200 schools.
During the schools visit we encourage students to form UN Clubs. We also introduce them to the idea of a classroom Model United Nations. Forming a Model United Nations, however, requires some training for teachers by UNIC staff.
Besides our educational outreach, we encourage groups of school children to visit the United Nations complex at Gigiri to learn about the UN at first hand. For more invitation visit: Guided tours page.
