2007 - The East African Model United Nations

Nairobi, 20 February, 2007

The 25th Annual East African Model United Nations (EAMUN) conference, was held between 20 23 February, 2007 at the United Nations complex in Gigiri, Nairobi . The conference which hosted about 800 students from different schools within the East African region seeks, through discussion, negotiation and debate, solutions to the various problems of the world.

The partipating schools were 38 from Kenya, 3 from Ethiopia, 2 from Uganda, 2 from Tanzania, 2 from DRCongo and 2 from Sweden.

Model United Nations simulate the actual United Nations, where students from various schools act as delegates and take on the challenges of the world in discussing current economic, political and social issues. The conference is expected to pass resolutions on issues touching on economic development, ecology, human rights, health, peace and security, as well as the International Court of Justice.

In the process, the participating students will learn to adopt views and attitudes other than their own and break away from narrow national self-interest and develop international cooperation, an aspect which United Nations advocates for.

The EAMUN conference is one of the three such conferences hosted by the UN in Nairobi . The others are The Junior Model United Nations and the Kenya Model United Nations.
